Dr. IM Tew holds an extensive background in dental surgery and prosthodontics. He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) in 2007 from The National University of Malaysia, followed by a Master of Dental Surgery (Prosthodontics) from The University of Hong Kong in 2015. In 2017, he became a Member in Prosthodontics from The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

Dr. Tew began his career as a Dental Officer with the Malaysian Ministry of Health, where he served in various dental clinics and hospitals between 2007 and 2010. He worked at the Gerik Dental Clinic, Oral Surgery Department at Ipoh Hospital, Tapah Dental Clinic, and Sungkai Dental Clinic. From 2010 to 2012, he transitioned into academia as a Trainee Lecturer in the Restorative Unit at The National University of Malaysia. Dr. Tew then advanced his skills as a Postgraduate Dental Officer at the Faculty of Dentistry, The University of Hong Kong, from 2012 to 2015. Since 2015, he has served as a Lecturer at the Department of Restorative Dentistry at The National University of Malaysia.
