Prof. Swee-Hin Teoh is the Founding Director and Distinguished Changjiang Chair Professor at the Center for Advanced Medical Engineering, Hunan University, and Emeritus Professor at Nanyang Technological University, where he held the President’s Chair in recognition of his outstanding leadership in research and education. He graduated with a First-Class Honours Bachelor’s degree and a Ph.D. in Materials Engineering from Monash University, building a career that bridges materials science, bioengineering, and clinical medicine. His professional experience includes serving as Chief Engineer at the Skin Research Institute of Singapore and the Biomedical Sciences Institute, where he played a central role in securing significant research funding and advancing biomedical technologies. Prof. Teoh’s research interests span regenerative medicine, bone and skin tissue engineering, biomimetic bioreactors, fish collagen scaffolds, decellularized organs, and innovative bio-platforms such as artificial eggshells, always with the vision of translating laboratory advances into clinical applications. He is internationally renowned for pioneering the development, commercialization, and clinical translation of 3D bioresorbable scaffolds and is among the few scientists who have successfully taken innovations from the lab to clinical practice and public-listed enterprises. His contributions have been recognized with numerous honors, including the Special Award for Scientific Life-Time Achievement in Bone Tissue Engineering, the Patent for Good Award, and recognition as one of Singapore’s Scientific Pioneers. A Fellow of the Academy of Engineers Singapore, he is also noted for excellence in teaching, research, and entrepreneurship. With more than 295 publications, over 16,761 citations by 13,088 documents, and an h-index of 62, Prof. Teoh continues to shape the global field of biomedical engineering through impactful research, mentorship, and innovation, leaving a lasting legacy in science and society.
